Duo Ahlert & Schwab

Lord of the Strings
(WNYC, New York)

Duo Ahlert & Schwab is acknowledged as one of the leading duos with modern and historic plucked instruments. They perform chambermusic and as soloists with orchestra at festivals and concerthalls around the world.

The duo's repertory for mandolin, guitar and lute contains music from baroque up to contemporary compositions. They rediscover forgotten works and inspire today's composers to write for them. More than 50 composers from various nations and styles have already dedicated pieces to Duo Ahlert & Schwab.

Winning 1st prize at the Belgian "Concours international des Duos" in 1992 started the career of Duo Ahlert & Schwab. Since then they have won prizes at further international competitions and received grants by German and international cultural foundations.

They have appeared on the radio and on tv and published six CDs so far. Since 2007 they record for Naxos.

With their fresh and lively playing culture, with recordings setting new standards, as well as their way of placing the music into the foreground of their recitals, Daniel Ahlert and Birgit Schwab have been enthusing their audiences in Germany and abroad for years.
