Concert in Italy
20. - 27.August 2007
For the third time we were invited to perform at the international guitar festival in Lagonegro. This year we didn't travel all the 1900 km to the South of Italy by car, but chose to go by bus and train. Our first place to walk Italian grounds was Napoli, hometown of Raffaele Calace! When we left Germany it was already autumn weather there. The next morning when we reached Napoli it was something between 35 and 40 degree Celsius! Before we would continue out trip to Lagonegro by bus, we just had to have one of these incredibly good pizzas everyone had recommended to us during our last stay.
Once more we stayed at Isola Verde - Santa Maria degli Angeli, where we especially enjoyed the great food.
All through the festival there were many very interesting concerts to be heard. On our first night we listened to
Pietro Condorelli Trio. With their combination of guitar, bass and percussion they wonderfully entertained the
audience with their jazz music.
On 23rd August it was our turn to play. We performed in the courtyard of Convent S. Francesco in Padula.
The program was: Duarte - Partita III, Gilardino - Sonatina-Lied, Braun - Sonate (all Italian premieres).
During the days after our concert night we even had some time to explore the landscape around our convent,
and of course we didn't miss the chance to listen to the other concerts. The next day already we could experience
the wonderfully virtuoso and perfect playing of Australian guitarist Harold Gretton. The year before he had won
the festival's competition, fully aright, as he proved with his demanding program of a.o. Sequenza by Berio
and the sonata by José. The last concert before we left was that of Italian guitarist Alberto Mesirca,
who studied in Germany for a while. He, too, played the José sonata and shone with a breath-taking performance
of Regondi's op.23.
Finally the day came when we had to take our leave of the sea, the incredible summer weather, the wonderful food and all the lovely people. We send greetings and thanks to everyone who was involved, especially to Pino Racioppi and Antonio Brigante of the Amici della Musica in Lagonegro, as well as to Angelo Gilardino and everyone who spent such a great time with us.
