Premiere in Slovakia

25. - 30.June 2002

Daniel Ahlert was invited by the Slovakian Chamber Orchestra to play three concertos in Slovakiy. Besides Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in C-Major, there should be the premiere of Ernesto Cordero's "Concertino Tropical". After long hours of driving we arrived in Bratislava on Tuesday evening, as the frist rehearsal with the orchestra was planned for the next morning. In fact, there was not much rehearsal work to do, because the Slovakian Chamber Orchestra lead by Bohdan Warchal was, as was to be expected, very well prepared.

For the rest of the day we had time to explore Bratislava, which really is an inviting town, and also has interesting historical places for us as musicians. For instance the birth place of the composer Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who also wrote music for mandolin and guitar, is situated in the historical part of Bratislava. After the final rehearsal on Thursday, we left the town on Friday for the first concerto. Altogether we headed by bus towards Bardejovske Kupele, a health resort in the far east of Slovakia. The programme consisted of works by Albinoni, Stamitz, J.S.Bach, Polarolo, W.A. Mozart and Vivaldi. In the evening, after a successful performance, the organizer invited all musicians and special guests to a little party. The next day we drove to Piestany, where Daniel and the orchestra premiered "Concertino Tropical". Ernesto Cordero had originally written this concerto for violin and orchestra, and last year he authorized and published it for mandolin on Daniel's recommendation.

The third and last concerto took place in the concert-hall of Trencianske Teplice, another Slovakian health resort, featuring again the concerto by Ernesto Cordero. All three performances were really great fun, especially because the Slovakian Chamber Orchestra, who have worked with many renowned soloists during the last decades, is a really excellent young ensemble.
